Broker Check

How We Get Paid

We are fiduciaries and provide wealth management and financial advice in exchange for compensation – like attorneys and CPAs.

In our many years of experience, we have witnessed that fees can be one of the most misunderstood aspects of entering into a healthy and transparent relationship with a financial advisor. With that in mind, we are committed to being transparent about how fees typically work and how our fees are structured.

 Facts:

  • Beginner investors (clients of any age with less than $100,000 to invest) consume significantly more time and care than experienced savers/investors.
  • Many products are designed with volume discounts.  Product expenses and advisory fees gradually decrease with the more $$$ invested.
  • The “complexity” of a client’s financial situation ebbs and flows over the years with major life events.  Divorce, job loss, retirement, loss of a loved one, caregiving for family members, and estate planning and probate are all examples of outlier events.  These situations increase the care and attention we need to provide to you.  These are moments where financial advice is most critical to your financial well-being and success.
  • Not everyone needs a financial advisor.  They need to start saving and investing.  Reading a few foundational books on personal finance can get them started.
  • Financial advisors are not compensated to advise you on your workplace retirement plan (401k, etc.) unless we are the broker of record on the workplace plan itself.  Participation in these plans should be calibrated within a portfolio to maximize risk allocation, fees, and tax efficiency.  If this is the only investment you are seeking advice on, we must charge an hourly fee for the advice rendered.

Financial Consulting

We charge $250/hour for advice with a $500 (2 hour) minimum.  A written summary of our recommendations will be provided at the conclusion of our session.

Financial Plans

Financial plans are offered starting at $1,500.  This includes a summary of written recommendations in addition to the Plan which is generated with financial planning software.  Once a plan is created, it can be updated for you year over year as assets grow and life and goals change.

If you choose to engage us for a Financial Plan, we ask you to commit up to 4 hours of time with us and independently to provide your own input, and current financial statements for all of your assets, debts, insurances, and estate documents.

We respectfully ask you to consider your availability and preparedness before engaging us.  The planning process is most effective for both of us when it is completed within a 30-day period.

Investment Management

We are compensated by commissions and/or fees on investable assets.  Commissions are fixed inside insurance, annuities, and mutual funds; and they often vary by carrier and product.  We will disclose how we are paid in each product and service.

Below is our current fee schedule for Assets Under our Management within Advisor Managed Portfolios (AMP) and/or Third-Party Asset Managed Portfolios (TAMP):

In addition to our advisory fees, there are fees for the selected AMPs, TAMPs, and the platform that custodies your securities.  These fees are charged on your assets and billed quarterly in advance and includes fiduciary management, quarterly and annual reviews, and on-going support and advice throughout the year.  For example, if you are charged a flat 1.00%, your account will deduct 0.25% quarterly from the assets under management.  You have the option to pay this fee directly or have it deducted from the assets.  As your volume of assets grow, advisory fees will be adjusted to the above schedule.

We do not take for granted the fact that you choose to work with us.  It is our intention to only work with clients who are seeking a long-term relationship. We want to be one of the 4 most trusted professionals in your life: Doctor, Lawyer, CPA, and Financial Advisor.
