Broker Check

There is Something About Mary

At our firm, we have the client—and only the client—in mind.

Are you shopping for a financial advisor?  It’s exhausting.  You must repeatedly disclose your money story and personal data with as many advisors as you choose to interview.  I want to save you some time and get personal, transparent, and humble.  I’m going to share my personal and professional experience in a way most others can’t or won’t.

You will find my professional credentials on FINRA Broker Check and LinkedIn.  I studied Business and Management in college.  I earned the credentials Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant which equates to 10,000+ pages of master’s degree level financial planning.

It is my personal experience in “Life University” that has developed my expertise even more than my formal education and the dozens of financial books I read per year.  Below is a list of my own personal experiences which doesn’t include hundreds of clients experiences I have witnessed and supported over the past 20 years.

  • I started college at 17 doing concurrent enrollment. I have self-funded all my education.  I paid my student loans off in 2015.
  • I was married at 21, welcomed our daughter at 23, and amicably divorced by 25.
  • I successfully and amicably co-parented our daughter with her father.  We are still friends to this day.
  • I supported my own daughter through a 4-year degree in just 3-years with $0 student loans.  We leveraged several strategies to accomplish this.
  • I bought my first house with a risky loan at age 30 on June 29, 2007, which was the absolute height of the market bubble before the banking crisis.
    • We suffered $38,000 of damage from a flood in 2010 and were not in a flood zone.
    • I successfully modified that mortgage in 2012.  RI Housing told me that only 10% of mortgagees were able to accomplish this with Bank of America. Persistence pays off.
    • In August 2017, after 10 years of mortgage payments, I wrote a personal check for $8,000 to sell that property and pay off the remaining balance! #freedom
  • My grandfather lived with us his last 5 years of life.  I gave my daughter the gift of experiencing multi-generational living, caregiving, and home hospice.  I would do it all over again if given the chance.
  • I lost my beloved father unexpectedly to a heart attack in 2014.
  • I was widowed at the tender age of 38 in 2015; after husband #2 lost a 3-year battle with colon cancer.
    • Caregiving and long-term illness are one of the most underestimated burdens in physical energy and actual expense.
    • The caregiver’s health and financial well-being is sacrificed.  This is shockingly overlooked in all facets of planning and decision making.
  • I discovered I was a victim of extreme financial infidelity by husband #2 immediately following his death.  He left me with nearly $1,000,000 of debt in my name – mostly toxic real estate transfers and credit card debt.
    • I worked closely with a private lender, CPAs, and Attorneys to leverage and clear the debt over a period of 25 months.  Everyone was paid.  No one was hurt (except my feelings).  I avoided bankruptcy.
    • The same private lender loaned me his money for 60 days to help me purchase my dream home in 2016 for $340,000 and I sold it in 2023 for over $1 Million. #rebound #triumph
  • I have over 10 years of experience of being a landlord.  I’ve executed more evictions than I care to remember.
  • I’ve paid as much as 10% and as little as 2.5% mortgage interest.
  • I have not carried a balance on a credit card for over 10 years.  I practice what I preach.
  • I lost my younger brother, Joe, to the Opioid Pandemic in 2019.  I know the hell that families go through.  I share their pain and grief.
  • I have experience serving as Trustee, Executrix, and Administratrix in several estates.
  • I have planned a lot of funerals.
  • I have delivered many emotional eulogies for my loved ones as well as for other families I care about.
  • I have been serving as a Co-Guardian for a cognitively and physically impaired young woman in New Hampshire since 2020.
    • I earned the Special Care Planner Certificate from the American College in 2010.  Planning and advocating for families who have loved ones with Special Needs is a passion of mine.
  • I served on my local Town Council between 2018 and 2022.  I have the experience of getting elected, upholding the Town Charter, State, and National Constitutions.  I was responsible to analyze and vote on a $100 Million + budget for the Town for 4 years.
    • I was a victim of malicious internet defamation in 2022 as a result of being in public service.
    • I am strong enough to receive and process opinions and criticism and remain graceful and diplomatic through it all.  I am unwavering in my convictions and pride for my country.
    • I am protective of PRIVACY not only for myself and my clients, but also for others.  Privacy is the new Currency.  Information and data should be always protected.  The progress of technology, particularly social media and AI, has increased the need for vigilance where personal privacy is concerned.
  • I became a “Millionaire” on paper by age 40.
  • I became mortgage-free by age 46.
  • I own and contribute systematically to many of the same investment models and insurance coverages I recommend to my clients.
